Every one of us has dreams of traveling while we are working. Conversely while we are on travel, we rarely think of work. The destinations we dream of are different for each individual. Some people will prefer tropical islands and beaches as their destinations. Shopping is also a common vacation dream of many people. Regardless of your destination or your dream it is going to require cash. If you’re planning on using your ATM card while traveling, then these five tips are for you.
1. Cash, whatever else a travel agent might tell you, is essential to enjoying a vacation. Even when your destination is an all-inclusive resort, there may be times where you wish to leave the resort and see something else. This will require cash. The old expression “cash is king” holds true everywhere in the world, but the cash may not be the kind you have in your wallet.
2. If you’re planning to travel with nothing more than your bank card and the cash in your wallet, you might be in for a budget vacation. There are great many destinations where ATM Machines are unavailable, and there aren’t even any modern banks. While the difference in monetary value between your home country and the destination country may be in your favor, not having cash won’t be.
3. Finding yourself stranded on a gorgeous tropical island only has appeal for certain television programs. If you don’t have the ability to access an ATM and draw your money from it, you won’t be able to do much on your vacation. On the other hand, you will not want to carry too much cash. Unlike ATM cards, cash cannot be replaced when stolen.
4. Anytime you are traveling to a city that has more than 5000 people, you will most likely be able to purchase things at certain locations with your ATM card. Typically there will only be extra charges in the case of currency conversion or similar fees. As long as your ATM card and the ATM you’re attempting to withdraw funds from use the same services, you should be fine. In many cases you will even be able to withdraw funds in your own currency.
5. When traveling to poor countries, third world countries, or locations that have recently been severely damaged by natural weather or otherwise, obtaining any currency may be difficult. In the most severe cases, if you have not planned ahead, you may find that you have to barter your personal possessions for pennies just to get cash.
